Transferring from abroad

If your family is moving to Oegstgeest from outside the Netherlands and you wish to enrol your child in Daltonschool Oegstgeest, please note the following important information.

Introductory meeting

To help you choose the right school for your child, we invite you to come in for an introductory consultation. In this meeting, we will discuss your child’s needs and background, and we will determine the appropriate grade to place your child.

If either you or your child are not proficient in Dutch, we may provide an interpreter at the meeting. However, in most cases, we can conduct the interview in English without the need for an interpreter. If you are also not comfortable with English, please let us know in advance.

The right grade

Placing your child in the appropriate class is very important, and we will work closely with you to ensure that your child is placed in the best grade to suit his/her needs.
If there is a large difference between your child’s age and the appropriate grade for his/her level, in principle we prefer to place your child based on age. This will help your child develop strong social ties and will help him/her learn the language more quickly.
On the other hand, if your child’s level of reading and writing is considerably lower than his/her age group, we may choose to place your child in a lower grade.

Language level

Our NT2 (‘Nederlands als tweede taal’, or Dutch as a second language) teacher will identify your child’s current level of Dutch and will work closely with your child to bring him/her to the proper level as quickly as possible. This will also include additional practice at home using computer software that you can install on your own computer. For the best results for your child, we encourage all family members to participate in this program.
